Robert Clow Elementary School Web Site EVANSTON, Ill. (May 30, 2001) - HomeworkSpot.com, a virtual homework information resource center from the creators of the award-winning LibrarySpot.com, today announced that the Robert Clow Elementary School Web site in Naperville, Ill., has been selected "School of the Year" for 2001. "This year’s winner is exceptional," said Lauren Zollinger, HomeworkSpot.com managing editor. "Robert Clow goes out of its way to encourage parental involvement, celebrate quality student work and communicate school activities to the entire community via its Web site." The Robert Clow Elementary School serves a student population of 600 students in a K-5 setting, but its dynamic student-centered Web site reaches far beyond the classroom. The site’s Backpack features a wealth of homework resources for students organized by grade-level and subject, and it also highlights useful resources for parents and teachers. By showcasing student work, illustrating learning benchmarks with examples of student progress and highlighting what’s new, Clow’s site meets the information needs of the learning community. Parents can read homework help tips and view curriculum calendars in the Teaching & Learning resource area. Students at Clow actively contribute to the Web site. Third grade Web Workers used digital cameras to photograph the school of a virtual tour. The second Grade Writing Lab illustrates student progress with a comparison of students’ fall and spring writing. Fifth grade students integrate Web-based media into their classroom studies with PowerPoint presentations on severe weather. Schools of the Year finalists were selected from HomeworkSpot.com School of the Week winners. Judges selected and evaluated K-12 school Web sites that offer quality, high-utility, up-to-date information, show evidence of school-wide involvement, feature resources for all levels of the school community and have an organized and easily accessible site design. Judges were impressed with Robert Clow’s use of the Web as an interactive learning tool as well as a medium for maintaining a lively dialogue with the community.
