StartSpot Mediaworks Names Ian de Hueck President and CEO Network of Branded Vertical Portals Prepares for Rapid Growth EVANSTON, IL (September 7, 1999) - StartSpot Mediaworks, Inc., an innovative developer and publisher of a growing network of high-utility vertical information portals on the World Wide Web, today announced the appointment of Ian de Hueck as president and CEO of the Internet media company. "Mr. de Hueck is a pioneer in the fields of online information and e-commerce, and his successful track record of building customer-driven companies that quickly establish market-leading brands will be a great asset to our team," said Lauren Zollinger, one of StartSpot's founding members and the company's editorial director. "His leadership will be vital to the growth of StartSpot as the leading network of vertical information portals on the Web." de Hueck joins StartSpot Mediaworks from Harmonic Vision, Inc., where he most recently served as the president and CEO and led the company's successful efforts to establish its Music Ace Series as the leading brand in the music education software industry. During de Hueck's tenure, Harmonic Vision's revenues nearly doubled each year, the company became very profitable and emerged as the leading music education software publisher. Prior to his work with Harmonic Vision, de Hueck founded VentureCraft, a business development firm that assists early-stage high-tech companies, and was a member of the founding management team at Peapod, Inc. (Nasdaq:PPOD). At Peapod, the leading online grocer, de Hueck led many of the company's early successful strategic planning, marketing, and business development efforts. He has also worked in the management consulting, venture capital and investment banking fields. de Hueck earned his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Notre Dame and his Master's degree in Management from Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Management. "I've had the good fortune to be part of outstanding teams at both Harmonic Vision and Peapod, and I'm looking forward to working with the exceptional team at StartSpot Mediaworks," said de Hueck. "As the growth of the Internet continues to skyrocket, the challenge of quickly and easily finding high-quality, relevant information increases as well. While a number of outstanding companies have made substantial contributions in this area, including Google Inc. and About.com Inc. (NASDAQ: BOUT), we strongly believe that additional progress needs to be made. Our mission at StartSpot will be to make a substantial contribution toward solving this problem. In short, we hope to enhance the overall experience of Web surfers, thereby increasing the utilization of the Web in everyday life and improving the likelihood that the Web will realize its potential to positively impact people's lives." About StartSpot Mediaworks, Inc. Current sites in the StartSpot network include LibrarySpot.com, BookSpot.com, EmploymentSpot.com, TripSpot.com, GourmetSpot.com and the newest site, GovSpot.com. ###
